Meet Dr. Mikael Sandstrom

Class of 1986-87

As a GRSP student in 1986-87, Dr. Mikael Sandstrom studied political science and history at Shorter College. He was sponsored by the Rome Rotary Club. Today, Dr. Sandstrom is state secretary in the Moderate Party's Coordination Secretariat at the Prime Minister's Office in Sweden. He is also sherpa to the G20 representing the EU Presidency.

The Stockholm School of Economics awarded Dr. Sandstrom a BSc in Business Administration and Economics  in 1992, a Licentiate Degree in Economics in 1996, and a PhD in Economics in 1999.

Before becoming State Secretary in 2006, Dr. Sandstrom was a member of the Municipal Council and Municipal Executive Board, Nacka Municipality, and the Administrative Officer for the Moderate Party Parliamentary Secretariat. From 1999 - 2003, he was a researcher at the Retail and Wholesale Research Institute and the IUI Foundation.

Dr. Sandstrom is married with three children.

Alumni Service to Humanity Award

Summary
The Alumni Service to Humanity Award was created by The Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) Trustees to honor outstanding alumni who have contributed to greater global understanding and peace through service to humanity, and whose significant achievements have either enriched their profession or vocation.

One award may be given annually to a qualified and deserving GRSP alumni who has made significant contributions to their community and their profession.

Eligible nominees
Only former Georgia Rotary Student Program Scholars are eligible for this alumni award after they have completed their student year at least 10 years ago.

Georgia Rotary Student Program Trustees, any current or past district governor in Georgia, and other GRSP alumni may nominate a GRSP alumni for the award.  Nominations from prior years may be eligible and considered for the award in subsequent years.

Selection Process
The Georgia Rotary Student Program Trustees will make the final selection at their annual meeting. The winner will be presented the award at an event during the Georgia Rotary Student Program Conclave.
